2018 Fisher Prize and EDC Student of the Year Awards Open for Submission

The annual GIS awards for Harvard Students are now open for submissions!   More information on the Howard T. Fisher Prize for excellence in GIS is available here.   More information on the ESRI EDC Student of the Year Award is available here.

EDC Student of the Year Award, 2018

The Esri Development Center (EDC) Student of the Year is an annual award open to all Harvard students, sponsored by Esri and administered by the CGA. Its purpose is to recognize outstanding achievements in developing novel tools or techniques for geographic analysis. One winner each year will be recognized by a plaque, a $500 cash prize and a complementary registration to present his/her work at the Esri Developer Summit in Palm Springs (March), or the Esri International User Conference in San Diego, CA (summer).

Fisher Prize Award Competition, 2018

The 2018 Fisher Prize for excellence in GIS will be given to one graduate and one undergraduate student who must be enrolled in the academic year 2017-2018 and in good standing to be considered for the award.  Group projects are allowed - just submit as one entry.  The Prize is a cash award of $500 each given to the top undergraduate and graduate entries.

The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018.

Zhejiang University Launches Collaboration with Harvard to Develop Academic Mapping Platform

A signing ceremony for a new collaboration between Zhejiang University and Harvard was held on October 13th, 2017.   The joint effort will build upon Harvard CGA's WorldMap to develop a Chinese Academic Mapping Platform for research, teaching, and data sharing.  Please see the Zhejiang University Announcement for more details.

 Wanted: GIS-savvy technical assistant for Spring extension course on Sustainable Tourism (HDCE ENVR E-118B).
 Requires basic competence with ArcInfo or QGIS.
 Import, edit and display maps/databases, perform basic analyses (overlay, select, buffer, recode, etc)
 Some intial work during November and December (before / after Exams) (10-20 hours?);
 Intensive work in January 2018 ( 40-80 hrs? ) in preparation for Jan 23 class start;
